How It all started:
In the late 1970s there was an informal group of modelers who had become acquainted via Hub Hobby Shop when it was on Broad Street in New Orleans. At the time the meetings were held at member's homes. The informal group soon became a chartered IPMS Chapter. Once chartered, additional modelers joined, and meetings shifted to the library in Harahan off of Jefferson Highway.

At this time the group grew from about 6 members to approximately 17 members. During the 90's the Flying Tigers and another modeling club called the “Jolly Rogers” merged forces and formed the chapter that is now IPMS New Orleans. In 1994 the club also absorbed a local car model club. In the early 00's the club adopted the name IPMS New Orleans, to denote geographically where the Flying Tigers were based. Since that time, the chapter has held regular annual contests and hosted the IPMS Region 6 Convention in 1999.
The club has a solid treasury, good attendance at meetings and contests including local, regional, national and international contests.

Presently:
We are keeping the Flying Tigers Scale Model Builders Club alive with approximately 20 active members. We are a group of passionate scale modelers of all ages, interests, and skill levels. Meetings start off with a short business update, then a show-and-tell for in progress, as well as completed models. We welcome guests and are always looking to recruit new model builders from the area to join our chapter. Any age, skill level, and subject interests are welcome. You do not need to be a member of IPMS to be a member of the club.

The Tigers meet:
